The North Texas Drumline Clinic and Contest provides a unique
opportunity for high school drumlines in the North Texas region
to not only compete against other highly skilled drumlines, but
also to present their show in a clinic setting and receive feedback
on their performance. The contest portion of the day will be judged
by three of the state’s top professionals in the field of percussion:
Mr. Ben Maughmer of L.D. Bell High School, Dr. Brian West of Texas
Christian University and Mr. Jim Yakas of the University of Texas at
Arlington. But what makes this contest really unique is the half-hour
clinic that each drumline will receive before they perform in the
contest. This clinic will take place with one of our three
highly-esteemed judges, and will allow the drumline to receive
one-on-one feedback and constructive criticism on their show. This
will give the students an opportunity to improve upon their musical
skills and abilities before they even perform in the contest,
providing a higher level of both competition and experience.
The North Texas Drumline Clinic and Contest will be hosted by the
McKinney North High School Band and will take place on September 24,
2011 at Ron Poe Stadium in McKinney, TX. For a map,

The first half of the day will be devoted to clinics for each drumline
and the contest portion will begin after a break for lunch. Each drumline
is allotted 90 minutes to warm up for each performance (clinic and contest).
Outstanding awards will be presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, as
well as Best Snare Section, Best Bass Section, Best Tenor Section, Best
Cymbal Section and Best Front Ensemble. To see a preliminary schedule,
