McKinney North Band Receives State Honors
Submitted by Heidi Berdis on Fri, 2008-05-30 12:03.[May 26, 2008, Austin, Texas] McKinney North Band students performed in Austin at The Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest (TSSEC) on May 26, 2008 at University of Texas at Austin and Connelly High School. To advance to State, a Class 1 solo must be performed by memory, and an ensemble must earn a division 1 (superior rating) on a Class 1 (advanced) piece.
The McKinney North High School Band is proud to honor the following students who earned ratings of Division I (superior) and Division II (excellent):

2008-09 Board Election Results

MNHS Band DVD
Submitted by Pat Hull on Fri, 2008-05-16 14:16.We are now taking orders for the 2007-2008 MNHS Band DVD. You can pick up an order form at the Band Banquet or download one here (PDF attached). DVD's are $15 each and please enclose payment to "MNHS Band" at the time of order. The DVD will have the video played at the Band Banquet, marching band contest video, Winterguard video, and all pictures from the year on it. We will take orders through Friday, May 23. Please turn in all orders the night of the banquet, or to Mr. Kurzweil or Mr. Harkey.

MNHS Earns Sweepstakes at UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest
Submitted by Pat Hull on Wed, 2008-04-30 11:16.McKinney North is once again proud to boast a Sweepstakes rating at the Region 25 UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest which was held April 15 - 17th at MNHS. Both the Wind Ensemble, directed by Alan Harkey and the Symphonic Band, directed by Josh Kurzweil earned a first division rating in both concert and sightreading. Congratulations to these fine directors and all of our great band students for this accomplishment!
This is the 5th consecutive Sweepstakes Award (Division I/Superior ratings in UIL Concert, Sightreading and Marching) for the MNHS Band!
Winterguard takes 2nd place at State Championships

Students Perform in All-State Concert at TMEA Convention in San Antonio

Trey Perkins, Sage Pierce, Kristen Crawley and Nikki Cassidy participated in the Texas Music Educators Association All-State Concert on Saturday, February 16th, 2008, in San Antonio. They are pictured with Mr. Kurzweil, Mr. Harkey and Mr. Myers after their performance.
All-State chair results were as follows:
Nikki Cassidy - 8th chair flute;
Kristen Crawley - 1st chair Eb Clarinet (best in the state!);
Trey Perkins - 2nd chair Bass Clarinet;
Sage Pierce - 3rd chair Bari Sax.
The North students were joined by Boyd Band's trumpet player Daniel Gerona, a sophomore, and trombonist Brian Weinert, a freshman; along with McKinney High Band's B-flat clarinetist Katherine Lutek, a sophomore.
Less than 2% of high school band students in Texas make it to All-State. Over 50,000 tried out state-wide. Congratulations to these outstanding students! They represented themselves, our schools and our community with class and distinction!
