Josh Kurzweil Biography
Josh Kurzweil currently serves as the Assistant Director of Bands McKinney
North High School. He conducts the Symphonic and Concert Bands and assists
beginner classes at Scott Johnson Middle School. Mr. Kurzweil is a 2003
Texas Tech University graduate with a degree in music education.
Prior to his position at McKinney North, Mr. Kurzweil performed with many
Texas Tech music ensembles including the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Symphony
Orchestra, and Clarinet Choir. In addition, he held the bass clarinet
position in the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra for three years. During his
time at Texas Tech, he served as drum major for the Goin' Band under the
direction of Keith Bearden. Mr. Kurzweil also served in various executive
positions in Kappa Kappa Psi, and in 2001 was awarded the James Sudduth
Memorial Scholarship.
Since arriving at McKinney North, Mr. Kurzweil has obtained consistent
division 1 (superior) rating at UIL marching contest. The Symphonic Band
earned division 1s at UIL Concert Contest last Spring and placed first in
their division at the Alamo Showcase of Music in San Antonio. Mr.
Kurzweil's bands have participated in Choice Music events around the
country including California, Texas and Colorado. He is also an active
musician, performing on bass clarinet with the Lone Star Wind Orchestra.
Mr. Kurzweil's professional associations include the Texas Music Educators
Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and the International Clarinet
Association.
